This Hybrid O.R. is representative of a new trend in operating room design. Hybrid O.R. meets the requirements of Cardiovascular and Neurosurgery, Orthopedic trauma surgery, Thoracic surgery and other specialties. The operating room is much larger than the typical O.R. and more complex. With multiple medical specialists using the room, the lighting, monitors, booms, and imaging system require an interstitial space (between ceiling and deck) densely packed with Unistrut supports, conduits for lighting and multiple data and signal systems, as well as involved supply and return ductwork connected to HEPA filtered laminar flow diffusers feeding clean air to the sterile field.

The Hybrid O.R. at St. Francis was developed from two typically sized operating rooms. Imaging is provided by a state-of-the-art Siemens robotic C-arm system called Artis Zeego. In addition to the 800 SF O.R., the project included a large control room and equipment rooms and scrub area.
