Hybrid Operating Room
When Main Line Health required new diagnostic and interventional imaging systems for their five hospitals, they turned to Siemens Medical Solutions to provide the imaging equipment and to Phoenix Medical Construction to design and build approximately twenty-five projects. Foremost among these was the Hybrid O.R. at Lankenau Medical Center.
The project program included two operating rooms, two control rooms, a shared clean storage room, scrub room and equipment room. Because this hybrid O.R. was a first for Main Line Health, the Facilities Management team mandated the construction of a mockup. The entire O.R. was “mocked-up”, including walls, booms, surgical lights, and table. Phoenix constructed much of the mocked-up equipment from plywood and rigid foam insulation. Changes were made to the design, based on user input after experiencing the mockup.
