Radiation Oncology

Radiation therapy is one of the most effective and widely used modalities for the treatment of cancer. Facilities in which radiation therapy machines are installed are complex and must be precisely constructed to meet the requirements of the radiation equipment manufacturer as well as the radiation shielding designer.   Radiation shielding is provided by massive concrete bunkers, at times supplemented with lead brick or high density aggregate block. HVAC, process cooling, and electrical requirements are complex and must meet rigid specifications.

Radiation therapy equipment installed in the United States is primarily manufactured by Accuray, Elekta, and Varian. Phoenix has expertise in the design and construction requirements of these manufacturers and is a certified turnkey design-builder for all.

Phoenix built the first Accuray Cyberknife facility in New Jersey at Overlook Hospital and has subsequently built many others. Accuray reports that Phoenix has built more New Jersey based TomoTherapy centers than any other contractor.   In recent years, Phoenix has completed dozens of radiation therapy projects for RWJBarnabas Health, Winthrop University Hospital, NYU, and other owners—featuring Cyberknife, TomoTherapy, Varian TruBeam, and Elekta Synergy and Gamma Knife systems.
